The same system that brought strong thunderstorms to the nation's midsection on Monday is firing up storms in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic into Tuesday evening.
While widespread severe weather is not likely, some of the storms will become heavy and gusty.
A cold front will continue to move southward into the Tennessee Valley and eastward over the Appalachians allowing thunderstorms to once again fire along it.
Spotty showers and thunderstorms developed ahead of the main front in the lingering hot and humid air.
The storms associated with the front will gain extra energy as they move into the humid 90-degree-Fahrenheit air along the Interstate 95 corridor of the Northeast Tuesday evening.
While not every location will get a thunderstorm due to gaps along the front, commuters heading home Tuesday evening should be prepare for delays, including Pittsburgh, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Virginia.
The locally strong thunderstorms that will be capable of producing torrential downpours, large hail and damaging wind gusts.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Mike Doll warned that "A few storms will contain winds strong enough to bring down large tree branches and power lines."
On Tuesday afternoon, lightning struck two New Jersey State Troopers' vehicles while both troopers were inside the vehicles. The incident occurred around 2:13 p.m. EDT on the Garden State Parkway in Middle Township, near mile marker 10.9. Neither trooper was seriously injured, although one was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center in Pamona, New Jersey, for observation.
Flash flooding could block some intersections and low-lying areas of major highways.
Much less humid air with more seasonable temperatures will sweep in behind the front Wednesday and will last into Saturday. Areas around the Great Lakes, central Appalachians and in New England will be on the cool side relative to typical late-July temperatures.
