Icy roadways across the Northeast led to fatal vehicle accidents and pileups early in the week.
Multiple vehicle accidents occurred along I-95, I-76 and I-476 in the Philadelphia area Sunday morning.
Near New York City, ABC7 reported accidents along the New Jersey Turnpike, Bruckner Expressway, Cross Bronx Expressway, Taconic Parkway and Palisades Parkway.
Hundreds of accidents were also reported by the New Jersey State Police as they urged caution on the roadways. State police in Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts also reported several accidents due to Sunday's icy roadways.
All bridges servicing southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey were closed for nearly two hours Sunday morning because of the icy conditions, according to the Delaware River Port Authority.

Another round of wintry weather hit the mid-Atlantic region days later, bringing slippery road conditions along the I-95 corridor once again.
Late Wednesday into Thursday, heavy snowfall also swept across areas in New Mexico and Texas.
At least 16 inches of snow was reported at Edgewood, New Mexico, east of Albuquerque, as of Thursday afternoon. Also, 13 inches of snowfall was reported in Amarillo, Texas. This smashed the daily record of 4.9 inches set in 1966.

"Amarillo, Texas, has received more than half of their annual average snowfall from this single storm. The city averages about 20 inches of snow per year," AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
In Europe, widespread rain and mountain snow continued to sweep across the region. While Spain received the most widespread precipitation, rain and snow fell in parts of France as well.
As the storm continues to track east this weekend, moisture running into colder air will result in snow falling from Austria and Slovenia northward into eastern Poland. Snow will mix with rain at times, especially across the higher terrain from Romania into western Ukraine.
