Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,January 18,2015

A Pacific system will impact the Northwest on Sunday, while an area of low pressure will slide across the upper Great Lakes.

A vigorous low pressure system will move onshore over the Pacific Northwest. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend southward. Moderate to heavy rain will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over western Washington, western Oregon and northwest California. Heavy snow showers will impact the Cascades, especially along western facing mountain slopes. As this cold front transitions eastward, it will bring a mixture of rain and snow to the northern Great Basin and the eastern half of the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, moderate to heavy mountain snow will develop across the northern Wasatch and the northern Rockies. There will also be a chance of light snow across the northern high Plains during the late evening.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will move eastward across the upper Great Lakes. This system will usher light snow showers across the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes. A cold front will extend southward over the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley and the Tennessee Valley. This frontal boundary will generate a light mixture of rain and snow over the Ohio Valley and the interior Mid-Atlantic, while heavy snow showers will develop across Upstate New York and interior New England. This system will also draw moisture from the Atlantic, initiating moderate to heavy rain across the coasts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England.
