Rain to Soak the Gulf Coast; Snow to Coat Tennessee

A storm will bring heavy rainfall and the threat for flooding to much of the Southeast into Friday, while some snow falls on parts of Tennessee and western North Carolina on Friday night.
The rain will be focused across central and eastern Texas as well as Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Thursday night and then into Georgia and the Florida Panhandle on Friday.

The core of heaviest rainfall will be right along the Interstate 10 corridor from San Antonio to just west of Jacksonville. In this area, some locations could see upwards of 3 inches of rain.
The blinding downpours and ponding on roadways will be enough to cause travel delays at times.

"People driving through the heavy rain should exercise caution as it can lead to hydroplaning and ponding on the roadways," warned AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Brian Lada.
Locally gusty thunderstorms can accompany the rain from the Texas coast to Florida as the storm system moves eastward.
This storm is associated with the same disturbance that has produced heavy snow in Colorado, eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle during the middle of the week.

On the northern edge of the storm, some snow and a wintry mix are in the offing for parts of Tennessee, Kentucky and the mountains of western North Carolina on Friday night.

Motorists should be on the lookout for slippery travel in the I-64 corridor of Kentucky and I-155 in western Tennessee.
Enough snow could fall to make some roads, mainly elevated surfaces slippery from Memphis, Tennessee to Lexington, Kentucky. There is a chance some wet snow and sleet mix in at the end of the storm around Nashville and Knoxville, Tennessee.
As the storm system starts to move northeastward in Saturday, rain will linger across the Carolinas, especially in the morning. A cold front extending southward from the storm will also keep some showers across the Florida Peninsula.
The rest of the Southeast will get an opportunity to dry out over the weekend as sunshine returns.
These will be just the lingering effects of a storm that will likely bring accumulating snow to portions of the Northeast Saturday and Saturday night.
