In the wake of the storm that brought snow, ice and rain to the Northeast on Monday, much of the balance of the week will bring temperatures typical for the middle of January around New York City.
High temperatures will generally range from 30 to 40 F, instead of the 20s that were experienced much of last week.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be on the lookout for patches of ice through the Tuesday morning rush hour as a brief push of cold air moves in following the early-week storm. Tuesday will be the coldest day of the next one to two weeks.
The pattern for the balance of the week and into the weekend will generally be good for travel in the region with no major storms in the offing.
The weather pattern until the end of January will be good news for the heating budget. From Wednesday on, people will be able to hit the ski slopes without the risk of dangerous cold during most days and nights through next week.
