NYC: Snow Could Make Wednesday Evening Commute Slippery

The second of two Alberta Clipper storms at midweek will spread some snow over New York City, southeastern New York state, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut, during Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Snow will struggle to accumulate around the city, initially. However, areas west and south of the city could receive a couple of inches from the fast-moving storm.
People heading home from work or school late Wednesday afternoon and evening could face slippery roads and sidewalks throughout the area as these surfaces cool and the snow begins to stick.

In the wake of the storm, temperatures will generally average within a few degrees of normal for the latter half of January.
A potentially stronger and much larger storm is being watched for the possibility of wintry precipitation on Saturday. This storm will cause snow in the Southwest at midweek, then heavy rain in the South late this week.
Storms swinging up from the Gulf of Mexico are notorious for bringing copious amounts of moisture with them. The key will be whether or not the atmosphere is cold enough for snow or ice versus rain.
AccuWeather.com will have more on this potential storm for this weekend starting on Wednesday.
Somewhat colder weather will follow during next week, while the bulk of the arctic air may hold to the north of the region.
