A storm will bring drenching rain, gusty winds and a swath of heavy snow to the Northeast Sunday into Monday.
While the weather pattern will be mild and benign over much of the nation, a storm will strengthen quickly over New England later this weekend, following a dry and chilly Saturday.
While the storm is likely to strengthen too late and to start off too warm to wrap heavy snow into Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City, parts of interior New England may receive accumulating snow.
According to Northeast Weather Expert Dave Dombek, "On Sunday, the steadiest rain in the mid-Atlantic will fall near and east of Interstate 95 to the coast."
"The rain is likely to have a sharp western edge on Sunday, and where that back edge sets up will determine if all or some of the I-95 mid-Atlantic cities end up with a wet day."
People hitting the roadways should be prepared for rainy travel with poor visibility. Airline delays are also possible as well due to low visibility and low cloud ceilings.
Dry air is forecast to sweep in across the I-95 mid-Atlantic swath from south to north Sunday night. However, the storm will ramp up over New England.
Enough rain can fall to impact the AFC Championship game in Foxboro, Massachusetts, on Sunday evening. Fans should dress for wet weather or risk getting thoroughly soaked.

The storm will bring rain in the swath from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston.
Mostly rain or a rain/snow mix will fall farther north along the New England coast in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Portland, Maine.
However, all or part of the storm has the potential to bring snow in a band from near the Hudson Valley in upstate New York, the Berkshires in western Connecticut and western Massachusetts, Vermont and northern and western Maine.
"This could evolve into a significant snowstorm in part of central and northwestern New England during Sunday night into Monday morning," Dombek said.
A subtle shift in the storm track could take the band of snow farther west, east or south. Updates will be provided on AccuWeather.com.
As the storm strengthens Sunday night into Monday, winds will kick up in the Northeast.
A disturbance moving in from the west will produce some snow showers from near the Great Lakes to the central Appalachians Sunday into Monday.
The storm will help to pull down some chilly air once again in the Midwest and Northeast.
