After Arthur was upgraded to a hurricane early Thursday morning, communities from the Carolinas up through Massachusetts have been re-evaluating and delaying or canceling the holiday's fireworks celebrations.

Arthur is expected to bring heavy rain, high winds, rough surf and rip currents up the East coast to many of the Atlantic's beaches from Daytona Beach, Florida, up through Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Massachusetts
Ahead of Arthur's wrath, the iconic Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular celebration in the city of Boston has been moved up to Thursday night, July 3, at 8 p.m. EDT. However, despite the rescheduling of the event, those watching the show may still have to contend with Mother Nature.
"There will be showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, but it shouldn't be a complete washout," AccuWeather Meteorologist Mark Paquette said. "There will be scattered rains. Observers may get wet."

With heavy rains, rough surf and damaging winds expected to hit the Cape Friday night into Saturday morning, multiple communities across the area have postponed or canceled Independence Day parades and fireworks shows.
The town of Barnstable has completely cancelled their fireworks display but hopes to provide a new display for residents later this summer in commemoration of the town's 375th anniversary. However, the Barnstable Village Fourth of July Parade will still take place at 9 a.m. EDT on Friday.
Falmouth has postponed its July Fourth fireworks display to Sunday, July 6; however, the town's parade has been entirely canceled.
For those in Martha's Vineyard with plans to attend the Edgartown fireworks, the show has been moved to Saturday, July 5.
Rhode Island
For the popular BankRI Independence Day Celebration in India Point Park in Providence, visitors and residents will have to wait one more day for their holiday festivities.
The city's firework show has been postponed to Saturday, July 5. The RI Philharmonic Pops will still perform before the firework display on Saturday.
New York City
With tens of thousands of fireworks scheduled to dazzle New Yorkers on July Fourth over the city's East River, the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks show is to proceed as scheduled.

Pennsylvania
Despite the cancellation of the Philadelphia Museum of Art's screening of ROCKY on Wednesday night, July 2, due to weather, the city's prominent Wawa Welcome America! fireworks display is set to launch as scheduled.
Any changes to the fireworks display are expected to be announced when the decisions are made on the city's July Fourth Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Another traditional fireworks display in the Keystone State is also expected to proceed as previously planned.
With a rain date planned for Saturday, July 5, Hershey Park's radiant fireworks show is anticipated to take place on Friday, July 4, at 10:15 p.m. EDT.
Thursday evening's fireworks show in downtown Scranton has been postponed.
Washington, D.C.
Hosted by the National Park Service, the capital's National Mall Independence Day Celebration is set to erupt as planned from the Reflecting Pool area on July 4, at 9:10 p.m. EDT.
Maryland

(Flickr/Kevin Jarrett)With two sets of concerts and fireworks arranged for the Fourth of July on the beach and at Northside Park in Ocean City, the city postponed the events until Saturday, July 5. Both events will occur at the same time and location as previously planned on Saturday. The festivities will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. EDT.
Virginia
Due to the likelihood of severe weather and heavy rain associated with Hurricane Arthur, city officials have rescheduled the Fireworks on the James show on Brown's Island in Richmond, Virginia, to Saturday.
The event will start at 9:15 p.m. EDT Saturday.
New Jersey
Due to weather, Atlantic City has postponed its fireworks show until Sunday, the Press of Atlantic City reports. The fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m.
North Carolina
While the Charleston, South Carolina, fireworks show is expected to happen as planned on the evening of July Fourth, towns in North Carolina have halted their displays.
Set to launch on Thursday, July 3, the Guilford County fireworks display has been delayed and rescheduled to next Friday, July 11, 2014.
As the impact of Arthur looms off the coast, the greatest impacts to the Carolinas are forecast to occur Thursday night.
Surf City initially moved its fireworks display to Thursday, July 3, but prior to the updates on Hurricane Arthur, the city rescheduled its show for Friday, Aug. 29, the Friday before Labor Day.
For Carolina Beach, the town's fireworks show initially planned for July 3, has now also been cancelled. The city plans to double up on other planned summer fireworks shows, including Labor Day.
