DC: Building Heat, Humidity Through Midweek

Heat and humidity will continue to build around Washington, D.C., through the first part of this week, but the return of cooler air is on the horizon.
While Sunday may have felt somewhat more humid to some residents and visitors, there will be no question that higher humidity has returned on Monday.
The steamy air will remain in place through midweek as temperatures also soar. Temperatures will steadily rise through the 80s daily Monday into Tuesday. Wednesday is shaping up to be the hottest day of the week with a high in the lower 90s.

The combination of the warmth and humidity will create challenges and hazards for those who must engage in strenuous labor and those with respiratory issues.

An afternoon thunderstorm or two will dot the area both Monday and Tuesday, especially from the city and points to the north and west.
While that means outdoor activities may have to move indoors for a brief time, the city will benefit from the brief cooldown that thunderstorms (deemed nature's air conditioners) provide.

The daylight hours of Wednesday should also stay rain-free before a cold front returns a shower or thunderstorm at night and on Thursday and sweeps away the surge of warmth and humidity.
The timing of the front through Washington, D.C., may put the city at risk for stronger thunderstorms later Thursday. The city would escape the danger if the front swings through earlier in the day.
A fresh shot of cooler and less humid air from Canada in the front's wake will lead to a pleasant Friday.
