In the wake of the late-season snowstorm, temperatures are forecast to reach well into the 50s late in the week as the wild ride continues with the March weather around Philadelphia.
The recent storm has pushed the seasonal snowfall to 67.6 inches for the city, making this winter the second snowiest winter on record. The snowiest winter on record for Philadelphia is 78.7 inches set in 2009-10.
While temperatures will rebound as the week progresses throughout the mid-Atlantic, the warmup will be slow through Wednesday. Highs are forecast to be in the 40s on Wednesday, and part of the mid-Atlantic states may have an icy start to the day.
Temperatures will rebound into the 50s on Thursday as spring officially arrives in the afternoon.
The nicest day of the week will be Friday, when bright sunshine could send the temperature well into the 50s to near 60 F for the first full day of spring.
Some rain may return to the area on Saturday.
Even though the region will be officially done with winter, the weather may not abide by change of seasons.
Another system is being watched for possible snow during the middle of next week over the mid-Atlantic and central Appalachians in general. However, at this early stage, the track, the dividing line between rain and snow and the magnitude of the storm are uncertain.
Regardless of the storm potential, cold air will return next week.
