A cold frontal boundary inched across the northwestern corner of the
country on Sunday, while a low pressure system developed over the
western portion of the Gulf of Mexico.
A cold front stretched from northern California to northeastern
Washington on Sunday, as flood warnings and flood watches were issued
across the Pacific Northwest. Moderate rain pushed across northern
California and southern Oregon, while a mixture of rain and snow moved
across parts of eastern Washington, Idaho and northern Nevada.
Brookings, Ore., reported a midday total of 1.92 inches of rain, while
Arcata, Calif., reported a midday total of 0.99 inches of rain. High
wind warnings were issued across Montana and Wyoming, as Browning,
Mont., reported wind speeds of 70 mph. High pressure along the coast of
southern California kept conditions warm and dry across the Southwest,
as Point Mugu, Calif., recorded a midday high of 84 degrees.
The majority of the central U.S. stayed clear of precipitation on
Sunday, although a swath of snow showers pushed across parts of the
upper Midwest and Great Lakes. Spotty showers and thunderstorms also
popped up along the western Gulf Coast as an area of low pressure
developed over the Gulf of Mexico. Alice, Texas, reported a midday total
of 1.19 inches of rain. The Eastern Seaboard also experienced
relatively calm conditions on Sunday.
