A cold frontal boundary approached the Pacific Northwest on Saturday,
while a separate cold front extended from the southern Plains to New
England.
High wind warnings and flood watches were issued across the Pacific
Northwest and the upper Intermountain West on Saturday as a cold front
approached the northwestern corner of the country. Light to moderate
showers moved across Washington, Oregon and parts of the northern
California, while the Cascades and the northern Rockies experienced high
elevation snow showers. Quillayute, Wash., reported a midday total of
0.39 inches of rain. High pressure kept the Southwest warm and sunny on
Saturday, as temperatures jumped into the 70s and 80s across southern
California. Santa Ana, Calif., recorded a midday high of 81 degrees,
while Torrance, Calif., recorded a midday high of 80 degrees.
Meanwhile, winter weather advisories were issued in northern Oklahoma
and southern Kansas on Saturday as a mixture of rain and snow moved
across the area. A swath of snow showers also moved across the lower
Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley and parts of the Northeast as a cold front
extended from Texas to Maine. A ridge of high pressure kept conditions
clear across the Southeast as temperatures ranged between the 60s and
70s across the region.
