A cold frontal boundary moved across the northeastern states on Tuesday,
while an area of low pressure developed over the central Rockies.
A cold frontal boundary shifted across the northeastern portion of the
country on Tuesday, as snow showers pushed across New England. A mixture
of rain and snow lingered over parts of Maine and New Hampshire, as
Dyer Brook, Maine, reported a midday total of 3.0 inches of snow, while
Millinocket Lake, Maine, reported a midday total of 3.5 inches of snow.
Winter storm warnings were also issued across the Northeast as stormy
conditions approached the region. The Southeast stayed warm and sunny on
Tuesday, as Punta Gorda, Fla., recorded a midday high of 84 degrees.
A low pressure system inched northeastward over the central Gulf Coast,
which triggered showers and thunderstorms over southern Louisiana and
southern Mississippi. New Orleans Lakefront, La., reported a midday
total of 1.08 inches of rain. To the northwest of this system, a
separate area of low pressure drove a mixture of rain and snow over the
central Rockies, and rainy weather across the central Plains and the
upper Midwest.
Meanwhile, conditions stayed relatively calm across the western third of
the country on Tuesday due to a ridge of high pressure along the West
Coast.
