Boston Forecast to Be on Northern Fringe of Snowstorm

A storm that will bring major disruptions of travel and daily activities to much of the nation will try to take a swipe at Boston with the chance of heavy snow late Sunday night into Monday evening.
The Boston area will be on the northern fringe of the main storm with enough snow to make roads slippery even if the heaviest snow were to stay to the south.
A sharp northern cutoff to the snow is possible with very dry, cold air to the north and very warm, moist air to the south.
The Boston area is likely to receive one to three inches of snow, as the storm will only graze the area. However, areas around the Cape are likely to be on the higher end of the 1-3 inch band.
Areas to the north and west of the city could have a little less snow than Boston itself.

A weak system moving through on Sunday will bring a small amount of snow, which may melt on some roads during the day.
Lengthy flight delays and many cancelations are expected well ahead of the storm, since it will move from west to east across the nation this weekend. The storm will hit portions of the Midwest with snow and ice Saturday into Sunday.
Along the Atlantic coast, the storm is not forecast to generate a great deal of wind. However, snowfall rates can reach or surpass 2 inches per hour in some locations during Monday. Such intense snowfall can overwhelm shoveling and plowing operations, as well as strand motorists.
