Tropical Cyclone Vardah Moving Inland in India

Tropical Cyclone Vardah is pushing ashore in India where it will bring heavy rain and potentially damaging winds.

The area of disturbed weather that eventually formed into Vardah impacted southern Thailand earlier last week. At least 14 people were killed by severe flooding.

Forecast: Moving Inland in India

Vardah was the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, as of late Sunday evening EST, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC).
Vardah is pushing ashore near Chennai on Monday (local time). Weakening is expected as it moves inland, due to interaction with land.

Strong, gusty winds could cause wind damage near where the center of Vardah moves inland. Heavy rain will also accompany Vardah, which may cause flash flooding. Some locations could pick up five inches or more of total rainfall.
