Nuisance snow that created slippery conditions across parts of the midwestern United States Sunday night are spreading into the Northeast to start the new week.
The highest snow totals will be measured on grassy and elevated surfaces, but enough snow will continue to fall to coat roads and create slick travel.
A heavy band of snow set up around Davenport, Iowa on Sunday morning dropping around 9 inches of snow before ending on Sunday afternoon.
This heavier band of snow continued to streak across northern Illinois, leading to 3-6 inches on non-paved surfaces around Chicago.
O'Hare International Airport reported receiving 6.4 inches of snow late Sunday night.

A National Weather Service observer reported snow-covered streets and sidewalks southwest of Midway Airport.
The snow also lead to flight delays, including at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Arriving flight delays exceeded an hour on Sunday afternoon, according to the FAA.
Final snow map 12-4-16

Temperatures marginal for snowfall lead to lighter amounts in Detroit and Cleveland. The cities reported 0.5 and 0.2 inches of snow, respectively. However, accumulations will increase away from the Great Lakes in the Northeast.

As the snow moves into the Northeast, any wet patches on roads and sidewalks around the Great Lakes can also quickly freeze overnight. Motorists should be aware of the threat for black ice during the Monday morning commute.
Midwest snow Dec 4

Seasonable temperatures and sunshine will return briefly to the Midwest on Monday, allowing any snow to quickly melt. This will raise the concern for some refreezing on roads and sidewalks at night.
More snow may accompany the coldest air of the season so far later in the week.
