Chilly winds to howl across Great Lakes early this week

Gusty winds will accompany a push of chilly air across the Great Lakes from Monday through Tuesday.
"A strong system across Lake Superior will provide gusty winds to the Great Lakes region Monday and Tuesday," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Kevin Gilmore.
Winds will pick up in intensity along a northwest to southeast manner from Minnesota and Wisconsin to Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, during the early part of the week.
Gusts could reach 25 to 35 mph at times, Gilmore explained.

Even higher gusts are possible, especially along the lake shorelines, he added.
There will also be a zone of gusts to 55 mph around western Lake Superior on Monday.
Winds are expected to peak in Green Bay, Wisconsin; Traverse City, Michigan; and Chicago on Monday, before reaching Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo, New York, on Tuesday.
The gusts could be strong enough to snap weak tree limbs and branches. Leaves can be blown around in yards and clog storm drains in streets.
Lightweight outdoor furniture, lawn items, trash cans and grill coverings should be brought inside or stowed away in garages or sheds to prevent them from becoming projectiles.

The winds will stir up waves across lakes Superior, Michigan and Huron. Small craft should exercise caution in the choppy waters.
The blustery conditions will follow in the wake of a cold front, which will send temperatures tumbling 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit below average.
Highs will generally range from the middle 50s to middle 60s in much of Michigan, Wisconsin, northwestern Ohio and northern Illinois and Indiana spanning Monday and Tuesday.

The clouds and soaking showers will likely set up across northeastern Minnesota, northern and central Wisconsin and much of Michigan, on Monday and Tuesday. This will make for a dreary, chilly beginning of the workweek.
Residents will want to be sure to grab a jacket and umbrella before heading out the door in the morning.
Drier and less windy conditions are expected to move into the western Great Lakes from Wednesday into Thursday. However, damp and dreary conditions may persist across the central and eastern Great Lakes and expand into the Northeast for the second half of the week.
