The threat for severe thunderstorms in the North Central states will shrink to parts of the central Plains Tuesday night with locally heavy storms farther to the northeast.
These thunderstorms will develop ahead of the same cold front that produced damaging thunderstorms across Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas on Monday. Very windy conditions are following the storms over the northern High Plains from Billings, Montana, to Bismarck, North Dakota.
Breaking: Storms Soak Upper Midwest Tuesday
Thunderstorms will affect areas from Nebraska to northwestern Ontario during Tuesday night. The greatest risk of severe weather will stretch from eastern Nebraska through much of Iowa and into southwestern Wisconsin.
Omaha, Nebraska; Des Moines, Iowa; and Madison, Wisconsin; can be hit be a locally severe storm.

"The main threats with these storms will be damaging winds, flash flooding, hail and perhaps an isolated tornado," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Edward Vallee.
Frequent lightning will also be a danger as these storms blast eastward. If you are outside as these storms approach, you should seek shelter indoors.
So far this year, there have been 23 lightning-related fatalities, according to the National Weather Service. Many of these occurred when people were partaking in outdoor recreation.

Settled weather is forecast to return to this part of the county for the middle of the week as the front pushes eastward.
This could bring some gusty storms to Michigan late on Wednesday, but the storms at midweek should not be as intense as those on Monday and Tuesday.
Blustery conditions follow the storms over the northern Plains and part of the Upper Midwest on Tuesday. Temperatures will recover to seasonable levels in most areas, but wind gusts may top 40 mph and may make for challenging conditions for outdoor activities.
