Rain, Gusty Winds to Impact British Open Friday

July 16,2015; 10:54PM,EDT

In wake of tranquil weather to start The Open on Thursday, rain and gusty winds will impact play on Friday.
Bouts of thundery rain will make an abrupt arrival later Thursday night at The Old Course and continue through Friday morning.

"Morning thundery rain will give way to breaks of sun and a lingering shower in the afternoon on Friday," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Andy Mussoline. "Play may be interrupted in the morning."
Rainy low pressure tracking northward near Ireland will be responsible for the wet weather.
Although the rain will let up Friday afternoon, the winds will pick up dramatically.
"There will only be a lingering shower left by Friday afternoon, but the players will have to contend with a gusty southerly wind," said Mussoline.
Winds will average 20 to 40 km/h from the south-southwest Friday afternoon; breaks of sunshine will allow the high to reach 19 C.
Elsewhere in the United Kingdom, much of England will have gusty winds with showers remaining around the area. London will register a high of 23 C.

Gusty winds and a few showers will linger over the course on Saturday as the low slowly moves away.
"The winds will not let up on Saturday," said Mussoline. "Winds will continue to average 20 to 40 km/h but they will be out of the west."
High pressure will build over the United Kingdom on Sunday and bring noticeably lighter winds for the final day of play.
Much of Scotland, including Fife, could get a showery start to next week as another area of low pressure tracks west and north of the British Isles on Monday.
