Weekend Downpours to Raise Flooding Risk Across Deep South

Umbrellas will be put to good use this weekend in the Deep South as showers and thunderstorms drench the region.
Gulf moisture in combination with a stalled front will set the stage for frequent downpours near the Gulf Coast from eastern Texas to Florida.
"A cold front will slow down and eventually stall along the Gulf Coast over the weekend," said AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Rob Richards.

Areas from Houston, Texas, to Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana, and farther east to Tallahassee, Florida, will be affected by frequent downpours Saturday and Sunday.
Folks with weekend plans that involve being outside may want to cancel and reschedule them for another date. Baseball games on either day will have a high risk of being rained out across this area.
In addition to cancellations, Richards is also concerned over another threat that these soaking showers and thunderstorms could bring.
"The heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas," warned Richards.
Travel on Interstate 10 between San Antonio and Jacksonville could be slow at times as heavy rain and road spray reduce visibility.

Motorists are urged to reduce speed and look for ponding of water in their travels as well. If high water is encountered, an alternative route is highly suggested to avoid a dangerous situation.
Although these storms don't pose a large severe threat, a few thunderstorms could produce strong wind gusts that could cause some problems.
Rain is forecast to expand northward, across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and part of Mississippi on Sunday.

The rain and clouds will also help lower temperatures slightly over the weekend, with highs dropping 5 to 10 degrees from Thursday's and Friday's temperatures.

The bulk of the rain will be concentrated along the Gulf Coast. Those traveling farther north will find the weather to be rather delightful.
High pressure will bring a nice weekend to Tennessee, northern Alabama and much of Georgia including the cities of Atlanta, Nashville and Huntsville, Alabama.
Abundant sunshine and comfortable conditions will bring great outdoor weather for Saturday and Sunday. Unsettled weather is set to return early next week, so get out and enjoy it while you can this weekend.
