Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,April 9,2015

A low pressure system will slide across the central third of the country on Thursday, while a ridge of high pressure will build across the Southwest.

A strong low pressure system will move east northeastward across the central Plains and the upper Midwest. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward across the middle Mississippi Valley and the southern Plains. As this frontal boundary collides with warm, muggy air from the Gulf of Mexico, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop across the Midwest, the Tennessee Valley, the lower Mississippi Valley and the southern Plains. Severe thunderstorms will impact a handful of states, including eastern Texas, southeast Oklahoma, Arkansas, northern Louisiana, northwest Mississippi, western Tennessee, eastern Missouri, eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and western Pennsylvania. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain could lead to flash flooding across the lower and middle Mississippi Valley. Just to the north, moderate to heavy snow showers are expected to develop over northern Wisconsin and northeast Minnesota.

A cold front will linger over the northern Mid-Atlantic. Rain and mixed precipitation will develop along this frontal boundary across the Mid-Atlantic and parts of New England.

Meanwhile, a cluster of light to moderate snow showers will develop over portions of the northern Rockies. Conditions are expected to be warm and dry across the Desert Southwest on Thursday as high pressure builds across the region.
