Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,April 8,2015

A trough of low pressure will eject eastward across the Intermountain West and the Plains on Wednesday, while a cold front will extend from the middle Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic.

An area of low pressure will slide eastward over the Intermountain West and the central Plains. This system will usher moderate to heavy snow showers across the central and northern Rockies, as well as portions of the northern Plains. Snow accumulations could exceed one foot across favorable mountain slopes. Light, scattered precipitation will trail this system across the Great Basin and parts of the Pacific Northwest. Conditions will begin to clear up across the Desert Southwest on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned low pressure system will draw moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. This interaction is expected to bring strong to severe thunderstorms to the Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley. Severe thunderstorms will be possible across eastern Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, southwest Nebraska, northwest Arkansas, Missouri, southern Iowa and western Illinois. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring threats of flash flooding to northern Missouri, central Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, northeast Kentucky, West Virginia and southwest Pennsylvania. Disorganized thunderstorms will also be possible from the lower Mississippi Valley to the southern Mid-Atlantic.

A cold frontal boundary will stretch from the middle Mississippi Valley to the northern Mid-Atlantic. Moisture will continue to overrun this frontal boundary, fueling a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow across the upper Midwest, the Great Lakes and the Northeast.
