The central Plains may see some severe weather on Wednesday as a strong low pressure system advances off the northern Rockies and into the Plains. Flow around this system will pull moisture and energy northward from the Gulf of Mexico, which will allow for showers and thunderstorms to develop across the central Plains. A slight risk of severe thunderstorm development has been issued from northern Oklahoma through southern Minnesota as large hail and strong winds are possible for these areas Wednesday afternoon. Periods of heavy rainfall are expected in areas of severe weather development with over an inch possible in areas of severe thunderstorm development.
Meanwhile in the Southeast, a weak trough of low pressure that brought some severe thunderstorms to the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley on Tuesday will advance eastward over the Southeastern states. Thus, a few more severe showers and thunderstorms may persist from Arkansas through northern Florida on Wednesday with main threats remaining large hail and strong winds with this system as well.
Out West, onshore flow from the Pacific Ocean may allow for a few more scattered rain showers to develop across the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West on Wednesday. Significant rainfall is not likely in these areas. High pressure to the south will keep moisture away to the north, maintaining dry and warm conditions for California, the Southwest, and the central and southern Rockies.
