Rain to Soak Japan, Southeast China

Several disturbances moving along a stalled front will bring rounds of rain from southeast China to Japan early this week.
The heaviest rain through Tuesday is expected to fall in the interior of southeast China across the provinces of Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei and eastern Sichuan. Heavy rain has already fallen in some of these areas on Friday and Saturday with in excess of 100 mm (4 inches) of rain being recorded.
Through Tuesday, another 50-100 mm (2-4 inches) of rain will fall in leading to the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
While areas further to the south, such as Guangdong and Hong Kong, will be dry on Monday, showers and locally drenching thunderstorms will move into these areas on Tuesday.

Not all of eastern China will have to deal with wet conditions during the beginning of the week. Rather, high pressure across northeastern parts of the country will bring dry and sunny conditions.
Air quality across Beijing will be good to start the week thanks to the fresh area of high pressure. However, as the high sits across the region into the middle of the week air quality will once again worsen.

As moisture flows to the north and east along the front it will cross Japan wetting much of the country. Areas from Nagasaki to Osaka and Tokyo will experience spells of rain through the first half of the week.
Temperatures will be mild in Tokyo on Monday, expected to rise to 21 C (70 F). However, by Tuesday the high temperature is expected to only be 13 C (55 F). Even cooler air will arrive for midweek. A similar cooling trend will be felt in much of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu.
While rainfall across Japan will not be heavy enough to cause flooding, those with outdoor plans will have to contend with the wet conditions.
