Cloudy, Wet Conditions to Chill Boston to DC Through Thursday

A damp and chilly flow of air from the Atlantic Ocean will continue through the mid-Atlantic through Thursday, spoiling baseball and other long-awaited outdoor activities.
According to AccuWeather.com Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams, "Another day of chilly, gray and dreary conditions are in store for Thursday."
Both umbrellas and jackets will once again be a necessity following Monday's dry and pleasant weather.
The chill expanded southward from New England, New York state and northern Pennsylvania on Tuesday and reached as far south as eastern Virginia and the Delmarva Peninsula on Wednesday.
According to AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski, "Along with the chill and rain will come areas fog and low cloud ceilings which could cause airline delays."

The rain threatens to force outdoor plans indoors or cause some sporting events and activities to be postponed or played in uncomfortable conditions. Rain gear will be a necessity at the Major League Baseball games that play through lighter rain or drizzle.
"The one consolation is that there will not be big snowstorms [in the mid-Atlantic]," added Abrams.
However, the air at midweek will be cold enough for snow to fall in the Adirondack Mountains and neighboring parts of New England, such as Burlington, Vermont.
Parts of Upstate New York to Massachusetts could also receive some freezing drizzle and sleet early Thursday morning as well.

Along with the chilly press will be a stiff wind along the coast that will result in AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures 10-20 degrees lower than the actual temperature.
Since the cold has arrived via a backdoor cold front, places west of the central Appalachians will remain mild at midweek.
A backdoor cold front arrives from the northeast and causes the chilly air to bank up against the eastern slopes of the Appalachians. Quite often a very dramatic temperature contrast occurs from one side of the Appalachians versus the other.
While temperatures are being held to the 40s in Philadelphia Wednesday and Thursday, Pittsburgh will enjoy highs in the lower 70s. Temperatures will crack the 80-degree mark on Thursday in western West Virginia, but will stay in the 60s across central Virginia.
The backdoor front failed to press much farther south than northeastern North Carolina. Similar to western Pennsylvania and much of West Virginia, highs over the southern Atlantic Seaboard to the Gulf coast will be mainly in the 80s through Friday.

A cold front arriving from the west will produce drenching showers and thunderstorms and the potential for localized severe weather on Friday over part of the Atlantic Seaboard including Augusta, Georgia, and the 2015 Masters Golf Tournament.
Abrams had one more positive spin on the impending chill and dreary conditions east of the Appalachians.
"It will be perfect weather to finish your taxes since there will be no temptation to go outside," he said.
That temptation will be back starting late this week as the weather improves and temperatures jump.
More consistent warmth is forecast through nearly the end of April. For example, around New York City highs most days beginning on Friday will be at or above 60.
