While this weekend felt nothing like August, a surge of warmer air is on the way for the Northeast this week.
Fresh cool air from Canada, combined with clouds and showers in some areas, held temperatures generally 5 to 10 degrees below normal across the Northeast on Saturday.
Temperatures rebound a bit on Sunday. Still, high temperatures were short of normal.
Warmth will build through the first half of the new week as high pressure builds nearby and a flow from the north is turned off.
High temperatures will trend upward through the 80s into the middle of the week from Boston and Syracuse, New York, to New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh. Washington, D.C., is forecast to crack the 90-degree mark.
Prior to the peak of the warmth, the first part of the new week will feature plenty of sunshine and low humidity.

Humidity will increase at midweek, leading to higher AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures.
While falling short of being described as extreme heat, some may find the warmth at midweek even more uncomfortable than a typical summer day due to the lack of hot days this summer.
Residents engaging in strenuous labor, sports and the elderly will want to be sure to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated and cool.
The warmth will be perfect for anyone wanting to take a dip in the swimming pool before summer comes to an end, while air conditioners and fans will have to once again be turned on.
Lovers of autumnlike weather will be happy with the news that yet another shot of cooler air will erase the upcoming warmth later in the week.
The same dip in the jet stream ushering in the cooler air should act as a shield protecting the Northeast from direct impact ofTropical Storm Cristobal in the Atlantic. However, rough surf is forecast spread northward as the week progresses.
