Phoenix Flooding: Freeway Flooded, Some Power Outages Reported

PHOENIX — Heavy rain has flooded parts of a freeway and some streets in the Phoenix metropolitan area and also caused some power outages.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is urging drivers to avoid the U.S. 60 in the Mesa area due to some flooding on the outside lanes of the freeway late Monday morning.

Some street flooding has been reported in parts of Gilbert, Mesa, Ahwatukee and San Tan Valley.
Phoenix police say that by 3 p.m. Monday, officers had handled 164 traffic hazard calls with at least eight of those involving people stranded in their cars. There were no reported injuries.
Salt River Project reported more than 1,000 of its customers are without power in Glendale and Peoria. SRP says crews are working to restore electricity.
