Weather Underground midday recap for Wednesday,September 25,2013.
A cold front moved through the Great Basin and northern Rockies on
Wednesday, while a ridge of high pressure brought autumn like conditions
to the upper Midwest and Northeast.
A weak cold front passed through southern California early Wednesday,
which carried almost no precipitation but did manage to drop
temperatures in the region. Los Angeles was mostly cloudy today with a
daytime high of 75 degrees. Temperatures in the southern California
deserts also stayed well below 100 degrees due to the recent cold front
passage. Meanwhile to the north, several low pressure systems embedded
in a stationary front brought rain to parts of the Pacific Northwest and
Great Basin, while heavy snow impacted the northern Rockies. Snow fell
in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, while showers moved over eastern
Washington and northeast Oregon. Eastern Montana and the Dakotas
experienced strong thunderstorms as low pressure interacted with a warm,
humid air mass over the northern Plains. The central Plains experienced
clearer conditions due to a high pressure system over northern Texas.
The Southeast continued to experience showers and thunderstorms on
Wednesday due to a slow moving frontal boundary over the region. The
southwest coast of Florida was impacted by the strongest thunderstorms,
while moderately strong thunderstorms moved through Virginia, North
Carolina and South Carolina. The upper Midwest and the Northeast sat
under a dominant high pressure system that brought cool, dry conditions
to the area. Temperatures were in the 40s and 50s during the early
morning, and stayed between the 60s and 70s during the day.
