Weather Underground midday recap for Thursday,September 12,2013.
The Northeast continued to get slammed by strong thunderstorms on
Tuesday, while the same system brought spotty thunderstorms to the
Mid-Atlantic. Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms persisted throughout
the Great Basin, as well as in parts of the Southeast.
As a series of cold fronts continued to move further south near the U.S.
Canadian border, thunderstorms emerged throughout the Northeast on
Tuesday. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued from Maryland to Maine
as a line of intense thunderstorms blasted through the region. Cooler
temperatures also began to emerge from the Greats Lakes into New England
as cold air accompanied the fronts. Tropical Storm Gabrielle continued
to move north along the East Coast, although it stayed several hundred
miles away from land. Wave heights were roughly double their average
height due to the influence of Gabrielle. For more information on
Gabrielle, please visit http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/.
The Southeast remained relatively dry throughout much of the morning,
while parts of southern Florida experienced spotty thunderstorms.
Temperatures ranged from 80 to 85 degrees throughout the majority of the
region.
The central Rockies and parts of the bordering states continued to get
battered down by heavy rain on Thursday, triggering flood warnings in
region. Flash flood warnings were issued throughout New Mexico,
Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and even as far as Nevada as the system drew
moisture further West.
The Southwest and Pacific Northwest experienced slightly cooler weather
on Thursday as temperatures dropped several degrees along the coast.
