Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,December 5,2016

A trough of low pressure will bring active weather to the Deep South on Monday, while snow showers develop from the Northwest to the western Great Lakes.

An area of low pressure will strengthen along the western Gulf Coast and the lower Mississippi Valley. This system will draw moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, which will lead to rain and thunderstorms across the southern Plains, the Deep South, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in southeast Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to eastern Texas, Louisiana, southeast Arkansas, southern Mississippi, west central Alabama, southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, Georgia and southern South Carolina.

Meanwhile, a mixture of rain and snow can be expected along the northern Mid-Atlantic and the coast of New England. Light to moderate snow is also forecast to develop in portions of New York and interior New England.

Out west, a low pressure system will deepen as it moves east northeastward from the upper Intermountain West to the upper Mississippi Valley. This system will usher moderate snow and strong winds across the northern Plains and the western tier of the upper Midwest. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend west southwestward from the northern high Plains to northern California. As this frontal boundary transitions east southeastward, it will produce snowy weather across the northern and central Rockies, as well as the northern Great Basin. Just to the west, another disturbance will generate moderate to heavy rain and mountain snow from the northern edge of California to Washington. Temperatures will also plummet 15 to 30 degrees below normal from the Northwest to the northern Plains on Monday.
