Streets in south London turned into rivers on Tuesday afternoon after a brief bout of heavy rain.
"A line of storms developed south of London and moved north, dropping heavy rain over the city," AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.
Torrential rainfall over 30 to 40 minutes quickly collected in low-lying areas and resulted in flash flooding, he said.
Cars were seen abandoned on flooded city streets. In some cases, drivers attempted to push their vehicles through high water leading to dangerous situations.
Multiple drivers were rescued near Wallington Station on Tuesday.

Graham Price drove his car through floodwaters in south London and instantly knew it was a bad idea. The car stalled and his doors locked, leaving him trapped. After one final blow to his window with a wrench, Price was able to escape.

Wet weather will return to London on Friday, though rainfall will not be as intense as it was in the beginning of the week, Roys said.
