The first widespread taste of winter fell across the Western states
early this week as snow blanketed areas from California to Montana.
In the high elevations, up to 12 inches of snow fell from Monday into
Tuesday morning. Up to 8 inches of snow covered Yellowstone National
Park, creating a wintry scene.
"After a warm October, a change in the weather pattern brought some
colder and stormier weather to the Great Basin with the first widespread
mountain snow event," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Walker
said.

At least one injury was reported amid numerous accidents and cars
sliding off roadways in Eureka County, Nevada, on Monday and Tuesday,
according to local law enforcement.
"The mountains from northern Nevada into western Montana have seen
some of the heaviest snow so far with this storm," Walker said.
The Big Sky Resort in southeastern Montana received 20 inches of snow
as of Wednesday afternoon. The ski resort is set to open on Nov. 26.
As of Wednesday evening, 8.8 inches of snow was recorded in
Flagstaff, Arizona, at the Pulliam Airport; the total broke the Nov. 4
daily record of 5 inches.
