In the high elevations, up to 12 inches of snow fell from Monday into Tuesday morning. Up to 8 inches of snow covered Yellowstone National Park, creating a wintry scene.
"After a warm October, a change in the weather pattern brought some colder and stormier weather to the Great Basin with the first widespread mountain snow event," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Walker said.
At least one injury was reported amid numerous accidents and cars sliding off roadways in Eureka County, Nevada, on Monday and Tuesday, according to local law enforcement.
Additional snow is expected to fall through Wednesday.
