Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake Strikes Southern Coast of Japan

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Japan, early Saturday morning local time and shortly before 4 p.m. EST on Friday, the U.S. Geologic Surveysaid. The temblor was initially estimated as a 7.0, but later revised to 6.5 and eventually 6.7.
The epicenter was located 89 miles west of Makurazaki, Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has canceled tsunami advisories for coastal regions along the southern part of country.
There was no tsunami threat for the United States, the National Tsunami Warning Center said.
According to the BBC, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

"A cold front moving across southern and western Japan is bringing showers to the region," AccuWeather Meteorologist Randy Adkins said.
"Showers can be expected for much of the day Saturday," Adkins said.
