After a rare November snowstorm blanketed Beijing and surrounding areas with snow this weekend, brutal cold will take hold this week.
While snowflakes began to fly around Beijing earlier in the weekend, the heaviest snow and most accumulations took place on Sunday.
The snow covered roads and, at one time, China Central Television reported that some 150 flights were canceled at Beijing's airport.

The snow will taper on Sunday night, but slower travel may result on Monday morning as snow removal continues.
Following this storm, frigid air will plunge across from Siberia into northern China causing temperatures to be 5-10 C (9-18 F) below normal across much of northern China. Most days will be 8-10 C (14-18 F) below normal in Beijing.

High temperatures will range from -7 to -4 C (20-25 F) in Beijing from Tuesday through Friday. Overnight low temperatures will be near -18 C (0 F) in the colder areas surrounding Beijing later this week.
"Residents should take the necessary precautions now to ensure that water pipelines will not freeze and animals housed outdoors have the proper shelter prior to the unusually cold blast," stated AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.
"The homeless should be encouraged to seek out shelters to prevent the impending cold from turning deadly."
The cold will not be limited to Beijing and neighboring areas as areas as far south as Shanghai will also feel the chill of this airmass.

Seasonable temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will be replaced by much colder air on Wednesday as a cold front presses southward.
This front will bring rainfall on Tuesday before the colder air arrives. High temperatures will be near 15-16 C (59-61 F) early this week before tumbling to 6-9 C (43-48 F) from Wednesday through Friday.
The cold will be felt across South Korea this week.
High temperatures will range from 11-12 C (50-54 F) on Monday and Tuesday before the chill arrives. By Wednesday temperatures will only climb to 5 C (41 F) followed by a high of 1 C (34 F) on Thursday.
The cold air will linger into the weekend as temperatures only slow rise each day from Friday into Sunday.
