Strong, gusty winds on Saturday at the Open Championship forced officials to schedule a rare Monday final round. The weather will improve some for the final round, but will be far from perfect.
Players finished Round 2 of the Open Championship at St. Andrews, Scotland, on Saturday. However, gusty winds made that a difficult task.
Thirty-two minutes after Saturday's 7 a.m. BST start, play was suspended and remained halted through most of the afternoon.

Winds at an observation station in nearby Lechars, Scotland, were sustained at 40 to 55 kph (25 to 35 mph) much of Saturday and gusted to a peak wind of 80 kph (50 mph).
The gusty winds were howling in between an usually strong area of low pressure skimming across northern Scotland and an area of high pressure over the English Channel, stated AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

The lengthy suspension in play that resulted from Saturday's gusty winds forced officials to push Round 3 to Sunday and then the finale to Monday.
"The only other time an Open Championship finished on Monday was in 1988 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes when the third round had to be scratched due to heavy rains that rendered the course unplayable," stated the PGA Tour.

An area of low pressure will deliver showers on Monday, along with a gusty wind during the afternoon. Wind gusts may reach to near 30-40 kph (20-25 mph) out of the south.
