Sunscreen can replace rain gear Friday through this weekend around New York City as showers and thunderstorms take a break.
The return of drier weather must first wait until the latest zone of showers and thunderstorms crosses New York City into Thursday evening.

Residents and visitors will just want to be sure to apply sunscreen and take other precautions to protect themselves from the harmful rays of the sun. After clouds break on Friday, ample sunshine will prevail this weekend as temperatures soar into the upper 80s.
Homeowners and landscaping crews in part of the mid-Atlantic have been struggling to find time to cut grass during the wet pattern.

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Eric Leister, "When you see a break coming your way on AccuWeather MinuteCast® for Your Location or the AccuWeather radar, you better take advantage of it."
A ticker-tape parade will be held to honor the U.S. women's soccer team at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday. Fans planning to attend the celebration should expect decreasing clouds as well as lowering humidity.

Following the break from the rain, more rounds of showers and thunderstorms are likely to return next week.
How long the wet pattern lasts or how wet it becomes will depend on exactly where the storm train sets up from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic and fluctuates from day to day.
