The frequency of tornadoes in July is dramatically less than in the
spring since the jet stream is positioned farther to the north this time
of year. Without the strong winds of the jet stream creating a twisting
motion in the atmosphere, it is harder for developing thunderstorms to
rotate and spin up a tornado.
