Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,July 6,2014

A cold frontal boundary will extend from the Intermountain West to the northern Plains on Sunday, while monsoonal moisture will continue to move across the Southwest.

A cold front will extend across the upper Intermountain West, the northern Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. This system will override a warm, humid air mass to initiate widespread thunderstorms across the nation’s midsection. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over southeast Minnesota, Wisconsin, eastern Iowa and northern Illinois. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms will also be possible over the northern Plains, the Ohio Valley, the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast. The southern Plains will stay mostly clear of precipitation.

An area of low pressure will develop over the coast of the Carolinas on Sunday. This system will bring a chance of rain and thunderstorms to South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The remainder of the Eastern Seaboard will experience dry conditions due to a high pressure system over the southern Appalachians.

A separate area of high pressure will linger over the Four Corners. This system will draw monsoonal moisture from the eastern Pacific and Mexico to trigger thunderstorm activity across the Desert Southwest. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep the West Coast clear of wet weather.
