Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,July 12,2014

A cold front will extend from the Intermountain West to the upper Midwest on Saturday, while an area of low pressure will deepen over the central Plains.

A low pressure system is expected to strengthen as it inches eastward over the central Plains. As warm, humid air interacts with this system, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop across the nation’s midsection. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over eastern Nebraska, northern Missouri, Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northern Indiana and southern Michigan. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms will also move across the northern and central Plains, as well as the upper Mississippi Valley.

Meanwhile, a slow moving frontal boundary will linger over the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to trail this system, which will be possible over the Southeast, the Tennessee Valley, the Mid-Atlantic, the Ohio Valley and parts of the Northeast.

Monsoonal thunderstorms will continue to impact the Intermountain West, the Great Basin and the Southwest. These thunderstorms will bring a threat of flash flooding to valleys adjacent to sloped terrain. High pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions clear across the West Coast on Saturday. .
