Skywatchers will be treated to the first full moon of summer when the Buck Moon arrives this weekend.
It's called the Buck Moon because it occurs at about the same time as buck deer begin to grow new antlers, according to Space.com. It is also sometimes called the Thunder Moon, describing the weather conditions of the season, or the Hay Moon.

Time is of the essence with this event, because the moon won't be in the sky for long each night. The Republican Herald says the Buck Moon will peak in the southern sky at about 1 a.m. each night this weekend and will set less than 10 hours after it rises.
The last full moon occurred on Friday, June 13, and if you didn't have a chance to catch that creepy occasion, it's going to be a while before it happens again. According to Vox.com, the next Friday-the-13th full moon will be seen Aug. 13, 2049.
