The past few days have brought summerlike warmth to the central U.S. where locations from Texas to Idaho tied or broke their previous record-high temperatures.
High pressure over the South pumped warm air in from Mexico and provided abundant sunshine to the central U.S. Several towns and major cities tied or broke their previous record-high temperatures.
The record heat began on Friday as several locations broke previous record-high temperatures, including Denver. The following shows some of the new record-high temperatures seen over the central U.S.

Temperatures will run between 20-25 degrees F above average across the southern Plains on Sunday.
High temperatures will reach the 80s as far north as southern South Dakota while highs will climb into the 90s over parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.
"The dome of high pressure will be pushed eastward as a storm system moves over the northern Rockies. Cooler air will move in early this week, but the heat will continue over the southern Plains on Monday," Walker said.

From a safety standpoint, temperatures in automobiles on a sunny, warm day in the autumn can still reach dangerous levels.
Never leave a child or pets in a vehicle, for any length of time as a result.
On Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, an infant died after being left in a vehicle in Tucson, Arizona. The high in Tucson on Tuesday was 86 degrees.
This warmth will spread to the Eastern U.S. early this week.
