Hurricane Rita made landfall along the Texas coast near the Louisiana
border on this date back in the extreme hurricane season of 2005. Rita
peaked with 180-mph winds in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm caused
tremendous damage and was directly responsible for the deaths of seven
people.
