The New York City area will grazed by a snowstorm hitting areas hard farther to the south Sunday night into Monday.
A surge of dry, cold air will prevent the storm from making a last-minute turn to the north as it nears the coast. The push of cold air will send temperatures downward into Monday.
The storm is expected to bring between 1 and 3 inches of snow to New York City. Amounts will be less to the north and west but may top 6 inches in southern New Jersey.
Because the storm is affecting such a large part of the nation on a west to east basis, airline passengers should expect delays locally, even as the worst of the storm stays to the south.
The heaviest snow later Sunday night into Monday will target Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Motorists heading south on I-95 to these cities should expect very slippery and snowy conditions along much of the way with the potential for road closures in some locations.
