A cold frontal boundary extended from the Southwest to the upper
Intermountain West on Sunday, while a low pressure system trekked
northeastward along the Eastern Seaboard.
A strong wave of low pressure moved across the Intermountain West on
Sunday. Blizzard warnings and winter storm warnings were issued across
Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas as gusty winds and heavy precipitation
accompanied the system. Beaverhead, Mont., reported a midday total of
9.0 inches of snow, while Gallatin, Mont., also reported a midday total
of 9.0 inches of snow.
A separate low pressure system ushered heavy rain and snow across the
Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast on Sunday. Flood warnings and winter
weather advisories were issued across a handful of states, while winter
storm warnings were issued across Maine. Westerly, R.I., reported a
midday total of 3.89 inches of rain, while New Bedford, Mass., reported a
midday total of 3.85 inches of rain. The southern Mid-Atlantic and the
Southeast stayed clear of precipitation due to high pressure over the
area.
Along the West Coast, an onshore flow from the Pacific brought light,
scattered showers to parts of Washington, Oregon and California.
Conditions remained mostly clear from southern California to Texas, as
temperatures ranged between the 70s and 80s across the Desert Southwest
and the southern Plains. Borger, Texas, recorded a midday high of 88
degrees, while Thermal, Calif., recorded a midday high of 78 degrees. .
