A low
pressure system moved across the Northeast on Monday, while monsoonal
thunderstorms continued to develop over the Intermountain West, the
Great Basin and the Southwest.
A strong low pressure system moved northeastward over the northeastern corner of the country on Monday. As this system collided with a warm, humid air mass, strong to severe thunderstorms developed across a handful of states. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in New Hampshire, while severe thunderstorm watches were draped across New England. A tornado reportedly touched down in Revere, Mass., while Mount Washington, N.H., recorded wind speeds of 58 mph. In addition, flash flood warnings were issued in New York and Massachusetts as heavy rain accompanied these thunderstorms. Rochester, N.Y., reported a midday total of 2.98 inches of rain, while North Adams, Mass., reported a midday total of 1.44 inches of rain. A cold front associated with this low pressure system extended across the Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast, the lower Mississippi Valley and the southern Plains. Showers and thunderstorms developed along the western end of the frontal boundary over northern Texas and southern Oklahoma.
Meanwhile, monsoonal thunderstorms continued to pop up across the Intermountain West, the Great Basin and the Southwest on Monday. Flash flood warnings were issued in southern Nevada, while flash flood watches were issued across Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and southern California. High pressure kept the majority of the West Coast clear of wet weather. .
