Snowy, icy roads to create treacherous travel from Philadelphia to Boston

A quick-hitting snow and a freeze-up along the northeastern United States Interstate 95 corridor late this week will lead to some slick roads for the Friday morning commute.
The snow in the Northeast follows a 15- to 30-degree Fahrenheit temperature drop from Wednesday to Thursday. Highs in the 20s and 30s will follow highs ranging from the upper 40s to the lower 60s from Wednesday.
A storm responsible for accumulating snow along I-64 and I-70 in the Midwest during Wednesday night pushed through the central and southern Appalachians and on into the mid-Atlantic Thursday and Thursday night.
"Snow will continue in the I-95 corridor of southern New England into early Friday morning," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
Snowfall from the storm will range from a coating to 2 inches in most locations.
Quick-Hitting Snow NE Friday AM

The storm dropped an inch or two of snow in and around New York City and Philadelphia Thursday night.
Once snow begins to coat the pavement, bridges and overpasses will become slippery before other parts of the road.
“While this certainly will not be a major snowfall, the timing of this covering of snow will make many roads slippery,” according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson. “As the storm strengthens offshore, some places along the coast could pick up a few inches of snow."

Into Friday morning, plummeting temperatures combined with snow-slicked roads could create treacherous conditions for motorists. A layer of ice can form beneath the snow, adding to the danger for motorists and pedestrians.
Travelers should drive cautiously, allotting extra time during this period to reach their destination.
While dry weather is expected for Friday afternoon, patches of slush and ice will remain. Any untreated wet and slushy areas will freeze on Friday night.
The threat for snow will return on Saturday along part of the Northeast coast following a major snow and freeze-up event in the Southern states.
