The first tropical storm to receive a female name formed in late May
1953. Tropical Storm Alice formed on May 25, 1953, in the western
Caribbean and slowly tracked northward, looping a couple of times before
making landfall in the Florida Panhandle on June 6. An area southwest
of Lake Placid, Florida, recorded the heaviest rainfall from Alice in
the United States with a total of 13.48 inches.
