Tropical wave to fuel disruptive downpours in Florida through midweek

A tropical wave will fuel numerous downpours and heavy thunderstorms across Florida Tuesday and Wednesday, increasing the threat for flash flooding and travel delays.
Although downpours and heavy thunderstorms are not uncommon throughout Florida during the late summer, there will be a noticeable increase through midweek.
"A tropical wave will move into Florida on Tuesday and increase the threat for heavy downpours and thunderstorms," AccuWeather Meteorologist Faith Eherts said. "The tropical wave has a history of producing heavy rain across the Bahamas over the last couple of days."

The downpours will be most widespread from approximately 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day and lead to rapidly changing weather conditions.
"The enhanced downpours will be capable of producing 2-3 inches of rain in a short amount of time," said Eherts.
On roadways, the torrential rain will bring visibility to near zero at times, increasing the threat for hydroplaning and quickly flood some areas.
Air travelers across the state may face delays as well.

In addition to flooding rainfall, heavy thunderstorms will be capable of producing gusty winds, but the threat for damaging winds will be isolated.
Although the tropical wave was being monitored for further development into a more organized tropical system, this is now unlikely.
"The area of showers and thunderstorms in the Bahamas is not expected to develop due to unfavorable environmental conditions and the lack of a low-level circulation center," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski said.
The increase in downpours will continue into at least Wednesday before the tropical wave diminishes.
Despite the weakening tropical wave, additional downpours and thunderstorms are possible across Florida into the upcoming weekend, but they will not be as frequent.
