Tropical Storm Ian in the Atlantic is No Threat to Land

September 13,2016
Tropical Storm Ian formed late Monday morning in the central Atlantic Ocean, well to the northeast of the Lesser Antilles and southeast of Bermuda. Ian formed from a disturbance that we've been tracking for days across the Atlantic after it emerged from the African coast last week.
The storm is no threat to the Lesser Antilles, Bermuda or the United States, since it should move northward into the open Atlantic Ocean during the next several days.

Current Storm Information
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
  • Tropical Storm Ian was located less than 900 miles east-southeast of Bermuda, as of late Tuesday morning.
  • Ian is expected to strengthen as it moves northwest then north into the open Atlantic, but is not forecast to become a hurricane.
  • This system poses no threat to any land masses over the next five days. It's likely to spin harmlessly across the open waters of the Atlantic and become non-tropical by this weekend.
